Board of Directors
Magic Carpet is governed by an international Board of Directors with several
decades of combined experience in non-profit management in Eurasia and the
US. Current members are:

Marta Baziuk, Toronto, Canada
Ms. Baziuk has more than 13 years of experience managing and implementing
development projects for organizations in North America and abroad.  
Currently she is employed by Winrock International where she manages a
trafficking prevention project in Moldova focused on the economic
empowerment of women. Previously, she implemented a project designed to
increase community involvement in how law enforcement responds to
trafficking and domestic violence in Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine and
Uzbekistan, developing programs with and for local NGOs.  Her experience also
includes working with journalists on a large media project to inform citizens of
their rights, and she was instrumental in the formation of the first non-partisan
voters organization in Ukraine while employed by the National Democratic
Institute for International Affairs. Ms. Baziuk speaks both Russian and
Ukrainian.

Konul Mirzayeva, Ganja, Azerbaijan
Since 2003 Ms. Mirzayeva has worked for the Ganja office of the "Bilik"
Educational Society of Azerbaijan, a national non-profit organization. "Bilik"
provides consulting services, such as computer training and English language
courses, to students, small businesses and NGO activists. Most recently, Ms.
Mirzayeva provided training on gender issues at Community Progress
Assessment (CPA) seminars conducted by "Bilik" for villages in the Tovuz and
Shamkir districts in Western Azerbaijan. Prior to joining "Bilik," she taught
English at a non-profit resource center affiliated with the Technological
University of Ganja. In addition, she has worked as a volunteer English teacher
at Kelbajar School #88 (with refugee children), as an elementary school
psychologist, and as an assistant in the Department of Foreign Languages of the
Azerbaijani branch of Dnepropetrovsk State University in Baku. She holds a
baccalaureate degree in Pedagogy and Psychology (specialization: pre-school &
elementary school) from the Ganja Pedagogical State University.

Stephanie Weishaar, Germantown, Maryland
Ms. Weishaar has worked on development issues in Eurasia since 1993. She is
currently  the Director of Funding Development for La Leche League
International, a nonprofit organization working in 65 countries to provide
mother-to-mother support for breastfeeding women. Prior to her work at LLLI,
Stephanie wrote proposals and designed programs for Refugee Resettlement
and Immigration Services of Atlanta, Pearl S. Buck International, Winrock
International, and World Learning. In the early 1990s, Stephanie worked in
Russia and Ukraine as the Field Director for GJARN, a Jewish charity providing
NGO development training and humanitarian aid. She was also the first US
coordinator of the NIS-US Women’s Consortium, bringing women’s leadership
training to Ukrainian and Russian communities. Stephanie is a fluent Russian
speaker and holds a degree in International Relations and Soviet Studies from
American University.
